If you answered YES to any of these, then I invite you to continue reading to learn how you can join me for this important GROUP TRAINING EXPERIENCE.
I have had great success by training other healthcare professionals by providing CEU training for weekly DBT Skills group participation, held over lunch time. I trained 24 counselors, directors and direct care staff in this model at SSTAR.
Joining the DBT Skills Group/Training is a commitment! If you choose to join us, you will be expected to commit as you would ask your clients to commit to:
- Attending the weekly group sessions over the course of 6 months.
- Actively participate in the group sessions each week.
- Complete any homework and be prepared to share with the group.
The DBT Skills Group is more like a training class, here is the structure we follow in each session/class:
Each week, we start group with a mindfulness exercise that is tied to what we will be learning about in that week's session. We then review homework from the previous week, and finally, we delve into learning a new skill.
The skills are grouped into 4 categories:
- Mindfulness is learning how to stay present in the moment without judgement.
- Distress Tolerance is next- where we learn how to tolerate painful things without making them worse!
- Emotion Regulation: How to identify emotions and learn to decrease the intensity of emotion so we can make wise mind decisions.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness: How do we ask for what we need and say not to things we don’t want, as skillfully as possible. Even if we don’t get what we want!
About CEU's:
36 contact hours will be awarded for full participation. There is no partial credit given. In the case of emergency, you may miss a class, but you must complete the homework before the next class session and be ready to participate.
Mental Health Counselors: 36 CEU's are approved by the MaMHCA, MEACP authorization number 23-0568.
Social Workers: 36 CEU's are approved by the Massachusetts Board of Social Work.
Nurses: This Class is in compliance with MA Continuing Education requirements for nurses in accordance with 244 CMR.
The DBT Skills Group will earn you 36 CEU’s which will cover your licensing requirement for 2 years if a social worker or mental health counselor.
I took DBT training with Julie and have been able to use these skills in my personal as well as my professional life. It is has helped me with living in the moment, to deal with stress, regulate my emotions and improve upon relationships. This has enabled me as a director and clinical supervisor to work with the clients as well as the staff I oversee to use DBT skills daily and teach them how to use.
I am so grateful for the knowledge that she provided to me. Her process in teaching has been giving examples of everyday life and showing how to use DBT skills within this. I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given to be trained by Julie.

I took Julie Sanders DBT course as a practitioner working in the substance use field. Having been already somewhat familiar with DBT I wasn't sure how much I would get from the course though I found Julie an engaging instructor and was presented with more tools and ways to implement those tools than I had previously known.
The subject matter was presented clearly, and Julie made the materials available in electronic form for every session making it easy to follow along. Even the homework was engaging and enjoyable. I would recommend her to anyone looking to further their knowledge in DBT.
